Though it is always important to give employees leadership another aspect of leadership comes into play in business during hard times. There is nervousness that occurs in employees and really anyone when all that is heard through the news is how bad things are. Whether your particular business is having trouble or not, there is always in the back of the mind of people what is going to happen in the future.
This is a good time to have more communication about how the company is doing, solving problems, and yes reassurance that the teams will get through any obstacles. The leadership needs to believe this and also have the employees believe this. If there needs to be cuts it should be done in a way that shows response perhaps customers spending a little less. However here is another point. Customers also need to have great customer service and be reassured that the business will meet their needs.
Leaders do well do show confidence in what is being done. Confidence in the company and the people that work for the company. It is a state of mind that often much opportunity comes from hard times as long as people do not give up, run the business, and believe it will succeed.
